The ‘Perfect Tense’ album began in late 2003 when, after he’d re-mixed the song ‘Elegance’ with such exquisite polish, I asked top-gun producer, session-bassist and generally class bloke Ed Poole if he would produce an album’s worth of my songs.

The original approach - that I would give Ed a basic recording of each song (me and an acoustic guitar) - didn’t last long. In fact this only applied to the first two productions, ‘Suddenly’ and ‘True Colours’. For no other reason than that’s the way it happened, and excepting ‘Best Days’ which was recorded for my fellow ChoonSmiff mate Mike Carroll, the process thereafter involved me recording each song at my studio and then handing over to Ed who added (and subtracted) instruments here and there, refined parts, re-mixed and generally spun his sonic magic into the weave.
